Miscellaneous papers and correspondence of Benson of Lake Comfort, Hyde County, N.C., pertaining to the sale of crops, the care of a minor for whom he was guardian, the hiring of workmen and a teacher for the county school, and other business affairs. Included are four detailed personal letters from George H. Shelton, merchant and innkeeper of Havana, Greene County, Ala., describing his activities and life in the area, 1847- 1856. Also included is an undated list of the "South Lake Company" (presumably militia).
